Fact 1
Bahrain was declared a kingdom in 2002. The capital of this kingdom is Manama.

Fact 2
The whole of Bahrain is divided into five regions known as governorates. Since independence, there have been continuous conflicts between the ruling Sunni tribe and the Shiite majority.

The official currency is Bahraini dinar (BHD). Bahrain is a very important financial centre of the Arab world.

The primary religion is Islam with 70% Shia Muslims, 15% Sunni Muslims and other religions and indigenous beliefs.

The official language is Arabic though Persian Farsi and Urdu are also used. English is widely spoken and the principal language of commerce.

Fact 6
Bahrain exports petroleum and petroleum products, textiles and aluminum. It imports chemical, machinery and crude oil. The natural resources mainly consist of natural gas, oil and fish stocks.

Fact 7
The total amount of arable land in Bahrain constitutes to just about 2.82% of the total available area. Desert constitutes about 92% of the total land.

Fact 8
Bahrain has arid, mild winters and very long and humid summers. Agriculture concentrates on fruit, vegetables, poultry and shrimp.

Fact 9
The highest point of Bahrain is only 122 meters above sea level and is called “Jabal ad Dukhan” or The Mountain of Smoke.

Fact 10
Bahrain diversified their economy and created some of the region’s best education and health systems.
