The official name is ‘Islamic Republic of Mauritania’. The official language is Arabic and almost everyone follows Islam. The other languages spoken in Mauritania are Pulaar, Soninke, French and Wolof.

Nearly 40% of the exports are iron ore due to its abundant availability in the region. The other natural resources include gold, gypsum, diamonds copper, phosphate and oil.

Mauritania is a desert country and therefore hot, arid and dry with frequent drought and low rainfall.

Mauritania is divided into 12 regions and the capital district is in Nouakchott.

The ethnic groups are mixed black/Maur 45%, Maur 28% and Black 27%. They are 100% Muslims.

The legal system is based on Islam with military rule. Their major trading partners are Japan, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Cote d’Ivoire, China, Russia, U.S. and UK.
