Originally trained under John Houseman at Julliard. Houseman told Robin Williams’ that he should not waste his time with acting classes and should instead focus on his stand-up comedy routines.

In October 1997 he was ranked as one of top 100 movie stars in the history of cinema by Empire Magazine.

Due to the improvisation skills of Robin Williams the writers of “Mork & Mindy” actually left huge gaps in the screenplay so he could go crazy with improvising while playing the part.
