His thesis, turned into "Nanosystems: Molecular Machinery Manufacturing and Computation" won an award for the Best Computer Science Book in 1992.

He is often called the founding father of nanotechnology.

In the mid 1970's he got involved with NASA summer studies and was active in space politics, helping defeat the Moon Treaty during 1980.

He was the co-founder of the Foresight Institute with Christine Peterson, his wife at the time.

Fact 5
He received three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D.

Fact 6
His Ph.D from was for Molecular Nanotechnology. This was the first degree of that particular background.

Fact 7
Currently, Drexler is an Academic Visitor at Oxford University.

Fact 8
His first book, "Engines of Creation: The Coming Era of Nanotechnology", envisions nanomachines will be created for selective destruction.

Fact 9
Although he is often doubted, he believes that nanotechnology will begin to happen within 30 years.

Fact 10
Based on his theory, this would mean devices could repair cells as well as germs being programmed to kill people.
