Amanda is the daughter of Christopher Plummer and his wife Tammy Grimes. She is the great great granddaughter of John Joseph Caldwell Abbott who was the prime minister of Canada.

She is the goddaughter of Michael Learned. Amanda’s parents named her Amanda Michael in honor of Michael Learned.

As a child, the actress loved horses and wanted to be a jockey when she grew up. When she was 14 she had an audition to ride for Alfred Vanderbilt’s stables at the Belmont Track. Amanda passed this audition and has been reported to have said that this was one of the fondest memories of her life.

Amanda Plummer began her acting career in 1981. Her first appearance was in the movie “Cattle Annie and Little Britches”. Her co-stars in the movie were Burt Lancaster and Diane Lane.
