Fact 1
It was Leavitt's work that allowed astronomer's to measure the distance between the Earth and other galaxies.

Fact 2
She graduated from Radcliffe College with a bachelor's degree in 1892.

Fact 3
As a female computer at the Harvard Observatory, she only earned $0.30 an hour.


Fact 4
Her work results helped prove the distance to the Milky Way, and that there were more galaxies further away. Later, that was called 'Hubble's Law'.

She has an asteroid and a crater on the moon named after her.

After she graduated from Radcliffe, she had become ill. She recovered but was almost completely deaf.

Leavitt was a member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as many other science groups.
