Oersted helped shape post-Kantian philosophy.

He founded organizations that are now known as the Danish Meteorological Institute.

He has two medals named after him; one for teaching in physics and America, the Oersteed Medal, and one for Danish scientists, the H. C. Űrsted Medal.

Oersted also founded, translated the College of Advanced Technology in 1829. It is now called the Technical University of Denmark.

He is buried in the Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen.
