Ten fun facts about Jessica Lange


Fact 1
Antonio Lopez, the fashion illustrator discovered Jessica while she shared a Manhattan apartment with Grace Jones and Jerry Hall. That marked her foray into modeling.

Fact 2
In the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s Lange was one of the best-known faces of the Wilhelmina Models Agency.

Fact 3
She had obtained a scholarship at the University of Minnesota, to study art. Instead, she headed for Paris and studied drama there.


Fact 4
The film producer, Dina De Laurentiis discovered Lange while she was at Wilhelmina. He cast her in the 1976 movie “King Kong”. The movie was a box-office grosser but Jessica’s performance in the film was considered to be a lack-luster one.

Fact 5
In 1973, she worked as a waitress at the “Lion’s Head Tavern” in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

Fact 6
In 1982, Jessica became the first performer in 40 years, to receive 2 Oscar nominations in the same year. She won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for “Tootsie” and the nomination for the Best Actress in the movie “Frances”.

Fact 7
1992 saw Lange debuting in the Broadway show “A Streetcar Named Desire”. She played the role of “Blanche” in the show.

Fact 8
Apart from acting, Jessica is also a photographer and has two published works.

Fact 9
She holds the position of “Goodwill Ambassador” for UNISEF and works in the Congo region and in Russia.

Fact 10
Another cause that she believes in very strongly and supports is the rights of the Nepalese monks.
