Debra’s film debut came in 1976, when she acted in the film Slumber Party ’57.

She then had her first television appearance as Drusilla, the younger sister of Diana Prince on the television show Wonder Woman.

Debra starred in a film for the first time in 1978, in the film Thank God It’s Friday.

Then in 1980, she acted alongside John Travolta in Urban Cowboy, receiving a BAFTA nomination and Golden Globe nominations for both Best New Star and Best Performance by an Actress.

In 1982, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role in the film An Officer and a Gentleman.

Fact 6
Debra received two more Academy Award nominations for Best Actress, in 1983 for her role in Terms of Endearment and in 1993 for her role in Shadowlands.

Fact 7
She then decided in 1995 to take a hiatus from acting, staying out of the film industry until her return in 2001.

During that period Debra taught for a semester at the prestigious Harvard University.

Fact 9
In 2001, she appeared in Big Bad Love after a six year absence from acting. The film was also her first foray in producing.
