Sissy was born Mary Elizabeth Spacek in December 1949 in Quitman, Texas.
She shot to international stardom with her portrayal of Holly Sargis in the 1973 movie “Badlands”, which was directed by maverick director Terrence Malick.
Her first Academy award nomination was for her role as Carrie White in the 1976 horror movie Carrie. Based on a Stephen King novel, the movie was directed by Brian de Palma.
Other Oscar nominations she received were for her roles in “Crimes of the Heart”, “The River”, “In the Bedroom” and “Missing”.Fact 5
