Donald Sutherland started off working as a radio DJ at the age of 14.

Later he studied engineering but just before he got his degree in engineering from the University of Toronto, he changed his major to drama. He chose to abandon his love of engineering in order to become an actor.

Donald Sutherland starred in some television parts and in “Dr Terror’s House of Horrors” in 1965 but was not really noticed as an actor until after his role in the 1967 hit western movie “The Dirty Dozen”.

He then starred in his role in “MASH” in 1970 which was his first starring role.

Donald Sutherland starred in many films in the 1970’s most notably “Klute”, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and “Animal House.”

Fact 9
Two roles that have won him huge acclaim are his portrayal of a conflicted father in the award winning movie “Ordinary People” and the epic movie “1900” directed by the famous Italian director Bernado Bertolucci.

In 1981, he did the narration for the highly publicized Anne Wheeler film, “A War Story”.
