Fact 1
Charles Darwin was very curious about what strange animals would taste like. His gastronomic adventures included tasting dishes made of an old brown owl, agoutis, armadillos and rodents which he found to have the tastiest meat ever.

Fact 2
He attended Edinburgh University and hoped to follow in the footsteps of is father and become a physician but abandoned the idea as he couldn't bear the sight of blood. He moved onto studying divinity instead and eventually become a rural cleric.

Fact 3
The young Charles didn’t really have to look very far for a wife. He married his fist cousin, Emma Wedgwood.

Charles and his wife Emma were known to be fascinated with Buddhism and had a deep respect for it.

Fact 5
Darwin and Abraham Lincoln share the same birth date- February 12, 1809. More than one of each of their children had died young. Both opposed slavery very strongly.

Fact 6
Robert FitzRoy, the Captain of HMS Beagle almost didn’t pick Darwin for the South American expedition because he did not like the shape of his nose.

Fact 7
On February 12, 1834, Darwin's 25th birthday, Captain FitzRoy named Tierra del Fuego’s highest peak after him. It is named Mount Darwin.

Fact 8
The full title of his1859-published book was: “On the Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life”. It was published twenty years after the epic voyage.

Fact 9
It is believed that Charles Darwin coined the term “survival of the fittest”. Fact is that the philosopher, Herbert Spencer, a contemporary of Darwin, coined the phrase in 1864.

Fact 10
The church attacked Darwin's vociferously when his work on the theory of evolution was publicized. Eventually, the Church of England apologized to him 126 years after he passed away.
