He joined the Army of Breda, since he wanted to become a military officer, and took formal studies of military engineering.

He had a daughter named Francine with a servant woman in 1635, but she died in 1640.

It is said he may have died from lack of sleep, caused by a strict study schedule and a case of pneumonia, in 1650.

His book "Passions of the Soul" was dedicated to the Princess and was awarded the pension of the King of France when he died. He never received it.
