Cher was born Cherilyn Sarkisian, She is known to many as the Goddess of Pop, thanks to her ability to constantly reinvent both her music and her image.
Her first on-screen appearance came even before she turned 9, when her mother secured parts for her and her sister on the American sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.
By the time she was 16, Cher had dropped out of school, struck out on her own and was taking acting classes in Los Angeles while working as a dancer to support herself.
Her career began with her working as a backup singer on a number of recordings, including Be My Baby by the Ronettes and You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ by the Righteous Brothers.Fact 5
Cher’s first single was titled Ringo, I Love You, and was released in 1964. Released under the moniker Bonnie Jo Mason, it eventually proved unsuccessful.Fact 6
