Ten fun facts about Julie Delpy


Fact 1
Julie’s father was a theater director and her mother was an actress. Both her parents were also involved in underground theatre, thus providing Julie with an early introduction to the arts.

Having moved to the United States in 1990, she finally became an American citizen in 2001.

Julie is an alumnus of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and she has written, directed and acted in well over 30 films.

Julie’s film debut came in 1984 when she was just fourteen. Director Jean-Luc Godard discovered her and cast her in his 1985 film Détective.

In 1987, she appeared in the title role in La Passion Béatrice, for which she received a nomination at the César Awards for Most Promising Actress.

Julie was catapulted into the international limelight by her appearance in the 1990 film Europa Europa. In the film, Delpy, a Nazi supporter, unknowingly falls in love with the protagonist, who is actually Jewish.

Fact 7
In 1995, she appeared in Before Sunrise, in what may be her best-known performance to date. The film is widely recognized to be among the most significant films of the independent film movement of the 1990s.

In 2001, Julie appeared in CinéMagique, a 30-minute long film that was shown several times a day at the Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. The film won the Themed Entertainment Association Award for Outstanding Themed Attraction in 2002.

Fact 9
Julie is also a prolific film director, and in 2004 she was the co-writer for the film Before Sunset. She was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards for her work on the film.

Also musically talented, in 2003 Julie released the self-titled record Julie Delpy.
