Ten fun facts about Juwan Howard


Fact 1
A one-time All-Star and one-time All-NBA power forward, he began his NBA career as the fifth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft, selected by the Washington Bullets.

Fact 2
Before he was drafted, he starred as an All-American on the Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team. Howard is the last member of the Fab Five who remains active as a professional basketball player.

Fact 3
At Michigan he was part of the Fab Five recruiting class of 1991 that reached the finals of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's Division I Basketball Championship in 1992 and 1993.


Fact 4
Howard formerly played for the Heat from 2010 until 2013.

Fact 5
Howard won his first NBA championship with Miami in the 2012 NBA Finals and his second NBA championship in the 2013 NBA Finals.

Fact 6
Although many of the Wolverines' accomplishments from 1992 to 1998 were forfeited due to the University of Michigan basketball scandal, Howard's 1993–94 All-American season continues to be recognized.

Howard is active in fostering youth basketball activities through the Juwan Howard Foundation, which helps underprivileged youth in Washington, DC and Chicago.

He was recognized in 2001 as one of the "Good Guys in Sports" by The Sporting News for his civic contributions.

In April 2010, Howard won the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his community efforts, philanthropic work and charitable contributions.

He runs a yearly free basketball camp for youth, which is made possible by a partnership between the Juwan Howard Foundation and the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), Jordan Brand, Dell Computers, EMI Music, Vitamin Water and the NBA.
