Roy Richard Scheider was born on 10th November 1932 in New Jersey, U.S and died on 10th February 2008 at the age of 72.

As a young boy Scheider was an excellent athlete and participated in baseball and boxing competitions. He made is amateur boxing debut in 1947.

Scheider studied drama at the Rutgers University and Franklin and Marshall College in New York.

He made his feature film debut with the movie, The Curse of the Living Corpse in the year 1963.

His two most popular films are Klute and The French Connection. Other films include, Paper Lion, Loving, Jaws 2 and Blue Thunder.

He was the leading star of the television series SeaQuest DSV produced by Steven Spielberg and played the role of Captain Nathan Bridger. He had a recurring role in the series Third Watch as Fyodor Chevchenko. He also gave voice over for Family Guy.

Scheider also hosted one episode of 'Saturday Night Live' in its tenth season.

Scheider suffered from multiple myeloma, a form of Cancer and had received a bone marrow transplant for its treatment.
