Louise Fletcher was born on July 22nd of 1934 and named Estelle Louise Fletcher. Both her parents were deaf. Her father was Reverend Capers Fletcher and her mother was Estelle Caldwell.

When she was young she moved to California when she finished college and during the day she was employed as a secretary while in the evenings she took acting classes.

Fact 3
Louise Fletcher won the Academy award for best actress in 1975 for her portrayal of the character Mildred Ratched in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The same role also earned her a Golden Globe award and a BAFTA award for best actress.

When she won the Oscar, Fletcher wanted to thank her parents and this she did using sign language because they were deaf.

In 1983, she won the Saturn award for best actress for her role in the movie “Brainstorm”.

Louise was given the Satellite award for best supporting actress in 1997.

Fact 7
Louise Fletcher married Jerry Bick. Together they had two sons. Louise took an eleven year hiatus from her career when her boys were small in order to be home with them.

In 1987 Louise played the grandmother in the film “Flowers in the Attic”. She won the Saturn award for best supporting actress for this role.

In her early career days she played in many different television series, including the popular “Lawman” and “Maverick”.

She also made an appearance in the television series “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” where she played the role of Kai Winn Adami.
